Last week was pretty hectic trying to get caught up from being out of town but I think I have made it through most everything. This week I am excited about the fifth event of the six webinar series: We will be discussing Management Reports including QuickBooks alone as well as a brief overview of two add-ons: XpandedReports 6 (the latest and greatest that was released a couple of weeks ago) and BizTools (Reporting, Analytics, and Performance Management Solutions for Businesses as well as Accountants and Advisors). Ask the Expert: Credit Card Transactions by Job

Q - What do you think is the best practice for entering credit card charges? Have a client that easily has 200-400 credit card charges a month. Needs job costing and those expenses are billable. So my thought has always been just as easy to input individual cc charges as downloading the information into QB because for each downloaded entry I now have to go back (using the actual cc receipt for that entry )and mark it as billable and complete the coding with an item and customer/job. But maybe I’m missing something and I want to process the most efficient way that I can. Submitted by Cyndi

A - There have been some improvements over the last few years in the Online Banking, along with a few bumps along the way when the changes were unveiled in 2009. But, it sounds like your best alternative is to use the side-by-side view. If you are still using the register mode, you are correct, this is not a very efficient process. With the side by side mode, however, you can click on the "Show splits, memo, date, number ..." on the right under the account to be able to enter the customer:job, billable or not, class, etc. It will still be a little time consuming for that volume of data entry, but it will be much more efficient than editing each one after they have been added to QuickBooks.To edit the preference, you will need to be logged in with Admin privledges, in single user mode, then choose Edit > Preferences > Checking > Company Preferences to make the change.
